Little details
The best thing about being a photographer is its my job to stop and appreciate the beauty of everything around me. This fern caught my eye a few days ago. The tiny lines on the leaves, the deep green contrasting with a yellow green. Just had to share....
Ordered chaos
This is one of my favorite images I've shot recently. Its a combination of my two favorite subjects to shoot, architecture and street. There are so many lines and reflections that create a whole lot of chaos.
But I find myself being drawn back to the stillness of the guys standing and chatting on the escalator as they arrive in the city.
Random things that need to be photographed
I love finding things that I just know need to be photographed. When I saw these on the street a couple days ago I just knew how they would look in an image and I had to bring them home.
Look
Recently I was watching a documentary about a famous French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson and talking with a friend about a line he said about how we all forget to just look, really look at whats around, and what we're taking a photo of.
This kind of relates to how over the last year or so Ive been trying to be more present right now in the moment, in the place that I'm standing, not some where off in the future or the past. And for that moment just to enjoy what I see and appreciate the little details.
Im really grateful I have photography and the desire to make images of the things that catch my attention. I always notice colour and contrast, lines and shadows, curves, angles, and reflections. I like that I have a reason to stop and look cause for a long time I was just glancing and not always seeing what was there.
While walking home the other night with my camera the shadows of this palm initially attracted my attention as well as the bright red berries. Its not everyones cup of tea Im sure, but for me this is what just stopping and looking is all about.....
